Getting closer....

Well, we've managed to accumulate a lot (!) of materials and I've learned quite a few things from the first several bags. After Sara's bag that was shown in the first blog entry I tried to bring the size of the opening compared to the flap width by angling the body inwards. This actually impacted all sorts of things, including making the bottom cordura angled and the straps angled. It was an interesting attempt...... but in the end we needed a new solution. What I really needed to do was move the seam, so that is the new design. It all came together fairly well.

After that we moved on to a larger messenger bag style bag. Mike was the guinea pig on that one. Results on that one are shown here.

I learned that we need stiffer material for larger bags and that I need to place the pockets in a different place. Different buckles on the strap would be nice too. All sorts of suggestions..... the next one is in progress. See below.

More pictures will be up when I get it finished. Still need to get more cordura bias tape from the States. It was mailed yesterday so it should be here soon. (Thanks, Mom!)

Sara has also designed a great logo for us. I'll try to get a copy of it that I can put up on the blog soon. She's also working on getting labels made. Can't wait!

We completed our first order. Sabine picked out all of the colors and shape of the bag below. It is certainly stout! I think this thing would survive a bomb blast. Like I said, we're definitely getting closer to the Perfect Bag. Not there yet, but getting closer.

So..... That's the latest scoop. There are a few more pictures on the flickr site if you want to check them out. As soon we get the last few parts taken care of we will try to see if anyone out there is interested in ordering a bag. We've had a couple of e-mails from people who are interested. Stay tuned!

I found your blog site thru your husband's post on mtbr.com. I must say, your bags look very nice! I'm a bit of a bag whore....for a guy thats really tough to admit. If you get saucy and start shipping them to the US, keep me informed. I love my Timbuk2 bags but their quality has gone downhill in the last few years and I haven't bought anything from them in 8 years or so. I'd even say your bags are nicer than a Crumpler. KUDOs to you.
